The Power of Make-Up
Written by Tereza Lysakova
Posting this reflection on 29th July was not intentional, but since I found out by chance it is actually the Lipstick Day (...did you know, such day even exists?), it now makes perfect sense.
I must smile when I hear men who do not understand, why women are making up their faces each morning just to wash it out in the evening and the next day they start again. And then the history repeats.
For me, make-up means confidence. I know, that if I feel good, I can achieve what I want. And I feel good, if I know I look good, i.e. if I wear make-up. The pages of glossy magazines or the internet adds are full of perfect faces of perfect models. But most of these pictures seems to be unreal and digitally adjusted. Perfect skin probably does not exist, and if any lady has it, it is really a great benefit.
I do not have perfect skin, quite the opposite. My skin is very sensitive, with some problematic areas. I take a routine care of my skin and it really helps but make-up is simply needed. Without it I feel quite pale and naked. So, I consider make-up as one of the best inventions ever (along with electricity, the internet, and other useful things, obviously).
Make-up gives confidence. When the skin is not perfect, it really can be, with a few careful strokes of the make-up brush. It covers all imperfections and with it, I feel stronger. During my university studies, even though I was studying days and nights, I knew that on the examination day, everything needed to be perfect. I was prepared, but I soon found out, that when I felt confident, everything simply worked out. And I have felt confident with nice make-up and nice clothes. With that attitude, I knew already in the morning, that everything will be fine. And it really was. As I graduated with honors, I can claim this really does work for me. But please bear in mind, that the knowledge is of course more important 😊. Make-up is just a nice complement. And I still practice this attitude during my working life. Everything seems easier and more doable, when feeling confident. Such attitude works for the work interviews as well as everyday working or personal life.
I simply love the quote of my favorite actress Audrey Hepburn (aka Holly Golightly) in the gorgeous movie Breakfast at Tiffany's. "A girl can't read that sort of thing without her lipstick." So true. I know, that if my lipstick is on and it's perfect, I can manage literally everything.
So, to all the men out there who still wonder why. We are putting on make-up every morning to feel good, stronger and confident...or at least I do 😊.
... And I totally respect women, who opt for a make-up free skin. I am simply not that brave...
