Beautiful Duets
Written by: Tereza Lysakova
I really like listening to the duets. (Usually) a perfect combination and connection of two unique singers. It
is an exceptional and original blend of their voices, melodies and feelings, but it
is also the chemistry between them, which brings the final piece to perfection.
Whether originating from musicals, films, fairy tales or whether found out randomly, they are mostly connected with my memories. Not only these duets though, but songs and music in general. I am not sure if you have it the same way. 😊 But when I hear a favorite song or a melody, I usually connect it with something which happened in the past. While listening to such song, I still remember the places, feelings and emotions like it would have happened yesterday. But back to the duets...
It doesn't really matter in which language the duets are performed and you really don't need to speak these languages to understand the emotions the music brings. There are countless duets of many different singers and various styles of music. So, I will mention a list of my favorite pieces. Those, which make me smile, bring joy and positive energy....and memories.
- Marketa Irglova and Glen Hansard - Falling Slowly
The first piece I will mention is the ultimate duet classic, at least for me. Performed by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, the Falling Slowly iconic duet from the Once movie, and an Academy Award winning song. A powerful ballad from a beautiful film. I heard this song live many, many times. And when visiting Dublin, I did not forget to look at the places where some scenes from the film took place. 😊 You can read more about my favorite singer Glen Hansard in my previous post.
- Brainstorm and Linda Lean - Reality Show
I discovered this Latvian band quite a few times ago, when their hit song Maybe aired through the Prague radio stations. So, I listened to some more of their songs and discovered this gem. Beautiful lyrics and such nice voices make this a touching masterpiece.
- Sarah Brightman and José Cura - Just Show Me How to Love You
Just show me how to love you or Tu cosa fai stasera in original, is a beautiful song performed by the opera singers Sarah Brightman and José Cura. The whole song is in Italian and it sounds so romantic. The mixture of these two voices is just perfect. When listening to these beautiful Italian pieces, I remember visiting Rome, walking through its historical streets or sitting there in one of the nice restaurants and enjoying the music. 😊
- Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor - Come What May
Isn't this the most romantic duet ever?... Maybe not, but it for sure might be one of them. Beautiful melody and lyrics so nicely performed by the actors from the Moulin Rouge musical. And as I really love musicals, you can expect a themed story in one of my future posts. 😊
- Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony - No Me Ames, Escapémonos
OK, this is not one duet, but two. But I really cannot decide which one is better, so I will simply list both. 😊 Marc Anthony is my favorite singer of the Latino music style. And he is also so handsome... I really like the Latino music, culture and dancing. And duets, of course. Just listen to these for yourself. Fenomenal, isn't it?
- Anna Tatangelo and Gigi D'Alessio - Il Mondo è Mio
A beautiful Italian version of the Academy Award winning original duet called A Whole New World from the Aladdin Disney fairy tale [1]. I like this song in the interpretation of these two singers. This song also reminds me of the time spent in England. 😊
- Sarah Brightman and José Carreras - Amigos Para Siempre
And one more song interpreted by Sarah Brightman and one of the famous Three Tenors. A piece composed by the amazing composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, a well-known author of many glorious musicals.
- Queen and David Bowie - Under Pressure
A breathtaking and legendary duet of two amazing singers, Freddie Mercury and David Bowie, accompanied by the Queen. Even though the song comes from the eighties, it is truly timeless. And the lyrics is so beautiful.
- Sarah Brightman and Antonio Banderas - The Phantom of the Opera
OK, so Sarah Brightman is in my list for the third time. But really, these songs are simply amazing. And singing with such icons like José Carreras, José Cura and, come on, Antonio Banderas? A dream come true. 😊 A classic piece from a classic musical written by my favorite composer Andrew Lloyd Webber.
So, is one of these duets also your favorite? Or are there any other of your favorite duet masterpieces? Let me know... And you can find some more inspiration in my previous posts about the Classical and Instrumental Music or the Feel-good Music and Songs.
